How did you first learn your craft?
I have been painting since I was a little boy. Ever since I can remember I have loved drawing and painting with water colors. We had a great neighbor that lived down the street and she had converted the garage into her art/painting studio. I would ride my bike down to her house on a Saturday and she would let me choose a couple of colors and paint something on an old canvas. Looking back, I am really grateful that she shared her love of painting and experience with me. She was always so open and welcoming when I would come riding unexpectedly up on my bike. I am sure she was busy and focused, but never made me feel unwelcome. I am so grateful to her! She would give me lots of great tips that I still use today.
What is the greatest advice you've been given?
One the greatest pieces of advice I was given was by my high school art teacher, Mr. Wilkens. He would always tell us, "Do not let rejection define you." I have recalled that advice dozens of times over the years and throughout my life.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
I have always wanted to travel to China. I am fascinated by the history of art in the Chinese culture. Thousands of years of dynasties, religion and culture combined in art - I am excited to see it for myself!
